Nutritional Medicine

Poor diet alone can prevent our organs (heart, lungs, kidneys ..) and body systems (digestive, circulatory, reproductive ..) from functioning well and can lead to a build up of toxins in the body’s tissues. This toxicity manifests as a variety of symptoms, which over time may lead to illness.

Avoid eating fatty junk food, highly refined & processed carbohydrates and stimulants (coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, chocolate, sweets), because these will make you feel tired, lethargic, unbalanced, sick and often depressed. Instead, eat a well-balanced intake of wholesome fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, quality proteins and wholegrains, which will provide you with energy to burn and you will feel positive and will rarely become ill.

Probably the most important decision that you will ever make regarding your health is to choose to eat a more balanced and healthy food intake consistently and improve your eating habits permanently. This will have the greatest impact on your total health and wellbeing for the longer term.

Healthy food choices will allow you to:

  • improve your body composition (good muscle to fat ratio)
  • optimally nourish your cells for greater energy production
  • improve digestive function
  • increase fertility
  • slow the ageing process
  • maximise your concentration and memory
  • improve sleep patterns
  • reduce stress
  • reduce risk factors for illness
  • increase sporting performance and stamina
  • improve recovery after exercise
  • and so much more!

To improve your food intake substantially, focus on a variety of:

  • fresh fruit & vegetables
  • wholegrains
  • quality protein sources
  • essential fats (the good fats – nuts, seeds, fish, olive oil)
  • adequate water

There are plenty of good reasons to be a little more food savvy!

Herbal Medicine

Traditional herbalism is based on the use of plants and plant extracts to promote healing and balance in the mind and body. Plants can be used effectively to treat a broad range of health conditions and diseased states, and to enhance general health and wellbeing. Herbs can have very potent ingredients, and need to be used at recommended doses, under supervision.

The great advantage of using herbal tonics and remedies is that the blend can be tailored to your needs. All aspects of your current state of health are taken into consideration (eg. physical symptoms and emotional state), before selecting appropriate herbs for the tonic. Liquid herbs are absorbed more quickly into the blood and are therefore faster acting than tablets and capsules.

Prior to beginning any herbal treatments, always make known (to your practitioner) any conventional medications you are taking.

The range of disorders treated with the use of herbs may include:

  • insomnia
  • migraines
  • poor circulation
  • anxiety and stress
  • depression
  • high blood pressure
  • skin problems
  • arthritis
  • hormone imbalances
  • and many more

Stress Management

Although many people don’t necessarily feel ‘stressed’ by their day-to-day activities, the very fact that our lives are extremely busy and often oriented around the time and deadlines, we tend to place ourselves under pressure constantly. This results in a ‘stress response, ’ which is a physiological reaction that occurs in the body, and it does require management. Left untouched, the end result is extreme fatigue, or anxiety, or depression, or even a blend of these, when the individual feels that they have lost control of their life or of the choices they are making.

Ask yourself this question … What do I do regularly for relaxation and off-loading stress?

If the answer is that you flop in front of the TV each night to unwind, then think again. Regular exercise is a great de-stressor, so we at least need to be working out most days of the week, to maintain some balance in our busy schedules.

In addition to this, perhaps it is time to learn how to relax! There are a number of simple relaxation techniques, that when practised regularly each week, will bring significant changes to your pulse rate and blood pressure over time, as well as improve sleeping habits significantly. You will find that you increase your energy levels and that your health takes a turn for the better!

Perhaps it is time to consider some guidance and regain control of the choices you make.

Iridology

The eye really is the “window to the soul”. More specifically, the iris or coloured part of the eye, can tell a large amount about your health.

Iridology is a non-invasive observational technique used to identify changes in the condition of tissues and organs in the body.  The nerve fibres in the iris are connected to every organ and tissue by way of the brain and nervous system. Thus an individual’s strengths and weaknesses can be observed via the iris.

The nerve fibres in the iris respond to changes in the body’s tissues. The iridologist can observe certain ‘markers’ and various conditions can be identified. Treatment can be effected before a condition becomes chronic or degenerative, with the aim of restoring a state of health, in the patient.

Some markers that are easily identified in the iris are:
·    Inflammation
·    Toxicity
·    Poor circulation
·    Lymphatic congestion
·    Acidity
·    Catarrh, mucous
·    Chemical sensitivities
·    Nerve depletion
·    Poor absorption of nutrients
·    Nutritional deficiencies

With professional guidance and improved lifestyle choices, the patient can correct imbalances and work towards restoring optimal health. This supports true preventative health care.
